Hi there! So I'm just going to tell you a bit about myself here so you can get a chance to know who I am. I'm starting this blog as a way to share about my love of fashion and beauty, as well as share little pieces of my life and thoughts. I'm hoping to connect with like-minded people and hope that I can create interesting content that makes people happy!

My name is Samantha, I go mostly by Sam. I live in the currently frigid and snow-covered state of Michigan, in a tiny farming town in the Lower Peninsula. I work at the Gap in my local mall and at the behest of a handful of people, including lots of urging from one of my managers (Hi Megan!), I decided to really think about starting a blog. Even if I get only a couple of views I've decided it will still be worth it. I'm 20 and going part-time to my local community college (albeit somewhat grudgingly attending). I'm a proud feminist and women's rights are near to my heart. I'm a Taurus, so I'm a definite foodie. I have three dogs and you'll be getting to know them for sure. Around here people are not fashion-y. I get side eyes all the time when I wear anything that could be considered a fashion statement (where I live a fashion statement could even be not wearing a sweatshirt for once). It's not the most glamorous place in the Midwest but it has it's pros, fashion and style are just not one of them. That is why I wanted an outlet to share my love of clothes with others.

I haven't always been in love with clothes, or fashion in general for that matter. When I was young I loved anything that had horses on it (I've never owned horses) and would raid my mom's old makeup palettes. I always eschewed anything pink because I was never girly. In middle school I hated on makeup and anything remotely feminine, probably because I hated how different and restrictive girls dress codes and expectations were but at the time I didn't realize it was anything other than "I'm not like other girls." I had glasses and a full mouth of braces, was very awkward and uncomfortable in my skin. I wore only too-big t-shirts and baggy pants with sneakers. My favorite outfit was dark purple baggy basketball shorts and a black graphic t-shirt in middle school. I began liking clothes in high school because it is where I began to observe styles of other students and people around me in stores, sure I'd compare myself to them (very toxic thing to do) but I'd also catalog the way they put things together in my mind. And then I started noticing how different clothes made me feel, how it could flatter my awkwardly long and thin frame.

So began my eventual obsession with fashion. After high school I kind of shed that horrible anxiety about getting dressed and being judged by fellow students. I began dressing how I wanted, even if it meant I was no longer blending in. And instead of fearing my face without makeup I started learning techniques to accentuate what I liked. Fashion really allowed me to grow my confidence and discover that there's nothing wrong with wearing dresses, skirts, or the color pink as long as I'm doing it on my own terms.

To me fashion is a lifestyle and there's no way to get it wrong. And because it is such a vast place filled with millions of different items and styles fashion is never boring. Getting dressed is my armor for going out in the world and makeup is a relaxing and creative outlet for me and I know that is the case for many others. Our styles are an extension of our personality and how we dress is a way to express ourselves without saying anything. That is why I want to write about style and fashion, because it is so important to me and I know that it is important to several million people out there and I'd love to share that excitement with others because where I live I don't have anyone to talk fashion with. A mutual love of fashion brings people together, and what could be better (or more glamorous) than a bunch of fashion-y people getting together?

Salut! - Sam.
